Spirit of the Lord

Texts for Sunday, December 17, 2023 – 3rd Sunday of Advent:

Isaiah 61:1-4,8-11, Psalm 126, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24, John 1:6-8,19-28

In high school a buddy and I put together a comedy duet based on Neil Simon’s play, “God’s Favorite.” The play portrayed the story of Job from scripture and was quite hilarious. Since that time, I often refer to myself as “God’s Favorite.” 

As we continue our Old Testament journey through Advent, our Isaiah text (61) “proclaim(s) the year of the Lord’s favor.” As I read this, I ask myself, “what must it look like to be in the Lord’s favor?” Thoughts?

This week we light the 3rd candle of Advent, the candle of Joy. Join us this Sunday as we proclaim Joy to the World.
