Make Yourself Known, Lord

Make Yourself Known, Lord

Texts for this Sunday, December 3, 2023 – 1st Sunday of Advent:

Isaiah 64:1-9, Psalm 80:1-7,17-19, 1 Corinthians 1:3-9, Mark 13:24-37

Advent was added to the church liturgical calendar as another season of preparation for baptism and membership of the Church. Like Lent, it was a time for learning about our faith and accepting Christ’s work on the cross.

While the emphasis has only slightly shifted over the years, it still remains a season of preparation through prayer and reflection. Sadly, in our culture, it has become a season of busyness. We no longer prepare quietly and contemplatively. We prepare in a hustle and bustle of preparing for the “big event.”

In hopes that during this busy season I might enjoy preparing for a spiritual journey, I will be walking through the Old Testament passages this Advent. These passages are rich and proclaim the coming of Christ. I look forward to journeying with you this year as we come again to remind ourselves and prepare ourselves for the gift of Christ Jesus.

Grace & peace,

Pastor Mark
